Trogir, which is only connected to the mainland by bridges, is essentially an island just a few kilometers north of Split. This UNESCO site, with its old center full of beautiful Venetian architecture, is ideal for a day trip on your Croatia itinerary.
As you stroll along the cobblestone streets, snapping shots of all the gorgeous corners and soaking in the historic ambience, you’ll feel like you’re in a live fantasy. - St. Lawrence Cathedral
The St. Lawrence Cathedral in Trogir, Croatia, is a magnificent Romanesque masterpiece in the Old Town. This architectural treasure is a superb example of incredible Venetian architecture, allowing you to immerse yourself in the history of the Dalmatia region. The cathedral’s construction spans several centuries, integrating various styles.
The magnificent doorway filled with religious motifs and gorgeous woodwork is one of the most striking characteristics. Spend some time appreciating the intricacies before entering the structure and climbing the slim bell tower. This section of the cathedral was constructed in the 16th century and provides some of the most breathtaking panoramic views of Trogir and its surrounding area.
2. Kamerlengo Castle
From the top of a magnificent 15th-century fortress, you can see medieval Trogir and the glittering sea. The so-called Kamerlengo Castle stands magnificently from the sea in the southwest corner of the island and is a must-see when exploring the old town. Explore the trapeze-shaped fortress’s rich history as you walk past its imposing towers.
The castle is open to the public and is periodically used as a unique setting for performances, concerts, and film screenings. Climb the castle walls for breathtaking views of the marina and the charming old town. The castle costs 5 EUR (5.51).
3. Visit the Beaches on Čiovo Island
Trogir, which is located on Croatia’s magnificent Adriatic coastline, is flanked by several incredible beaches, particularly on neighboring Ciovo Island. There are numerous options to choose from, including secret bays and the famed Okrug Gornji Beach. Take a boat into the crystal-clear waters and spend a day soaking up the sun on the warm rocks.
These beaches are walkable from the town of Trogir, but you may also take a water taxi or drive there. There are numerous excellent beach clubs along the waterfront, such as Beach Bar Borkko, Laganini Beach Club, and Beach Bar Lloyd. 6. Cipiko Palace
The Cipiko Palace is a famous historical structure in Trogir, Croatia. It’s one of the most important and well-preserved palaces in town, with a lovely blend of architectural styles. Built during medieval times by the powerful Cipiko family, it stands in a magnificent square and is a wonderful thing to do in Trogir.
Admire the finely carved stone decorations and lovely windows on the castle facade. Look inside at the elaborate interior, which reflects the family’s wealth and prestige. Though it used to be their family home, the palace is now a location for exhibitions and events, providing a glimpse into the town’s cultural legacy.
7. Game of Thrones’ Klis Castle
The beautiful Klis Fortress towers majestically above the settlement of Klis, near Split and Trogir. This medieval fortification has a history dating back over two millennia! It is regarded as one of the most valuable examples of defensive architecture in the region, with extensive walls encircling a central fortress.
Visitors can visit the grounds as well as the museum, which displays a variety of weapons, armor, and traditional clothing from throughout the ages. The city of Meereen, however, is also well-known as another Game of Thrones setting in Croatia. By Car: Trogir is approximately a 40-minute drive from Split, making it a fantastic spot to visit if you have your own vehicle.
By Bus
You can also take the local bus from Split, Sibenik, or Zadar to Trogir. Depending on the day, buses arrive every 30 minutes to an hour. The Old Town of Trogir is only a three-minute walk from the station.
According to Ferry
During peak season, you can also take a ferry from various points around the Dalmatian coast to Trogir. The boat voyage from Split takes around an hour and can be booked ahead of time or at the dock in town.
